Chapter 10

Ari

“Put some bail money to the side because when that man’s wife find out about you, she is going to beat your ass.”

I was at work and even though I wasn’t the type that had a lot of female friends, I had formed a light friendship with the head waitress at Pies and Thighs. Adonna was cool and down to earth and never seemed judgmental, so I decided to ask her to have lunch with me.

While we sat in the small dining area, I decided to run my situation by her just to get her opinion. No way in hell was I telling her the married man I was dating was our boss, but I just wanted to know what she thought. I was going to bring Evan up just to see what her thoughts were on him since she had worked for the restaurant from the beginning.

“His wife don’t want any of this but how about you, would you date a married man if you knew his marriage was over?”

“Been there and done that,” she answered quickly before putting some candied yams in her mouth. “That man had my damn head so gone, I thought I was saving him for an awful woman and he loved me and in the end, the joke was on me. I felt stupid as hell, Ari.

“Here I was being faithful and giving my all to a man who went home to his wife every day. Hell, he even had me feeling sorry for him. I couldn’t stand her and didn’t even know the woman. Now that I’m out of the situation, I can look at it more clearly without the rose-colored glasses.

“Dealing with him set me back but no one could tell me that at the time. I was going by everything he said, and girl, he painted this woman to be crazy as hell. When I ran into them at a comedy show holding hands and laughing, I knew he had taken me for a damn ride. It’s way too many STD’s out here to be riding on a dick with someone else’s dried pussy juice on it, no thanks.”

“I understand, Adonna, because most of these situations end up with the man staying with his wife, but my situation is different. They have kids and he can’t just leave. He provides a very comfortable life so he’s sure if he files for a divorce right now, she will clean him out. I can understand that, it’s not like he’s still sleeping with her. They barely get along. He’s trying to be there for his kids and that’s where it ends. He calls her his roommate. What am I supposed to do when I’m blessed with the perfect mate, but he has someone keeping him back? I can’t just walk away.”

I had to be very careful about what I said because I didn’t want her to put the puzzles pieces together and figure out I was talking about Evan.

Adonna started laughing and shaking her head.
